Publishing Sessions using Session Manager
Introduction
Once you have created your session with Session Manager, you will
want to publish that session to a web server. After you have published
the session you can preview the test and then move on to the Security
Manager to schedule the test for your students.
There are several key parts in being able to properly publish
your session and questions to the web server. You will need to pickup
the Perception CD in the Innovation Center (HT2 - 130) so that an
Oracle Client installation can be done on your office computer.
Currently you can only publish from an on campus computer.
Which server is being used? The server name is GQUIZ.
How do I get access to GQUIZ? An account has to be created for you
on GQUIZ and Microsoft Networking software has to be installed on
your office desktop machine to properly access GQUIZ. Call the Help
Desk to initiate a work order for access to GQUIZ. You will also
need an Oracle account - contact Mike Aragon(53462) to get an account.
Publishing a Session
From Session Manager select the session you want to publish. From
the File menu choose Publish Session
and then select publish
via ODBC
. The Publishing Session via ODBC dialogue box then
appears. From this screen you can choose whether to publish a template
and questions you created along with your session. Be sure to properly
select the correct directory that your are publishing to for each
item.
Once you have access to GQUIZ you will also be given access to
a directory that matches your username. It is a good idea to Map
that directory to your desktop computer (A computer technician can
help you do that).
When you publish a session the only thing is published every time
is the Session. All of the other parts of a session are optional.
The following describes when to select an option to publish and
shows an example of how to properly select the correct directories
for publishing
.
Session: - Mandatory
Database session published to:
Type QMPORC in the text box
Templates: - If you have modified the template
Directory templates being published to:
Q:\username\layout
Questions: - If you created or modified the questions associated
with the test
Database question being published to:
Type QMPORC in the text box
From the Resources tab you have the option of publishing all graphics
and multimedia files referenced in your questions.
Here is an example of how to properly select the correct directories
for publishing
.
Graphics: If you created or modified the graphics associated
with the test
Database session being published to:
Q:\username\qmresources
Multimedia: If you created or modified any multimedia associated
with the test
Directory templates being published to:
Q:\username\qmresources\multimedia
Hot Spot and Java: If you created or modified any Hot Spot
and/or Java associated with the test
Database question being published to:
Q:\username\qmresources\java
Click OK to initiate the publishing process. It may take some
time, so be patient. You will be prompted twice for a username,
password, and server. Input the correct username and password and
type Perception in the server text box. Eventually you should receive
a message stating that your session was successfully published.
To test your session point your browser to:
