Introduction to Session Manager

Once you have created your questions within Question Manager, you can put them into a "session" with Session Manager. "Session" is the name used in Perception for a test. Sessions are held in session databases. A single session database can hold many sessions.

Creating a Session

Select the File menu and choose New Database… Define the name of the database (try to keep the name descriptive yet somewhat short). Do not use spaces in the name of the database.

Selecting the question database to use with your new session database.

You will then be prompted to use the default database or select a different one. If the default database is not correct, click on Yes and navigate to the correct question database. This is a critical step. You can also select the database from the Tools menu by selecting Options.

Creating a new session with the Wizard

Once the session database is created and you've selected the question database, you can now begin to add sessions to it. Choose New Session from the File menu. Select the "with the Wizard" option and click on Next.

In step 1 of the wizard add the session's name, the author of the session and an introductory message for the session (the introductory message is optional). Click on Next.

Step 2 of the wizard allows us to select whether or not we want to display feedback, to record answers in the answer database, to display the questions in random order or choose a template for our session. Click on Next.

In step 3 we can now began to add questions to our session. Click the Add.. button. You can choose to add questions from the question database you selected. Choose to add All of the questions from a particular topic or Randomly select a set number of questions or a Single question from any topic. You can insert as many question references as you like by clicking the Add… button each time one has been inserted. Once you've finish with step 3 click on Next.

Step 4 allows us to give a pass/fail message based on the percentage scored. This step is optional. Click on Finish.

Adding a block to a session.

Once the session is created we can now add additional blocks to the session. To place the new block after another block select the block it should come after and then choose Add Question Block … from the Block menu. To place the new block before the first block select the Control Block and then choose Add Question Block … from the Block menu.

After you've added the block you are then prompted to title the Block name, select whether to Disable feedback, Shuffle questions, Use a different template or add an Introductory Message for the block you've added. Click the OK button.

The next step is identical to step 3 of the Wizard. We can choose to add questions from the question database you selected. Choose to add All of the questions from a particular topic or Randomly select a set number of questions or a Single question from any topic.

You can insert as many question references as you like by clicking the Add… button each time one has been inserted. Once you've finish with step 3 click on OK.

Tryout a Block

Select the block to tryout and from the View menu select Tryout. You can only tryout one block at a time and cannot tryout an entire session.
